Tips for Choosing Bridesmaid Dresses
Short Fall Bridesmaid Dresses
Short bridesmaid dresses aren’t reserved for spring and summer weddings, your bridesmaids can rock them at fall weddings too! Just make sure your wedding is indoors or not too late into the fall season so your bridesmaids are not too chilly in their short dresses.
We love the rich burgundy color of this short bridesmaid dress, it’s universally flattering on all skin tones. It also makes the short length feel more appropriate for fall.
Mid-Length Fall Bridesmaid Dresses
Trendy and stunning, mid-length bridesmaid dresses are a unique and elegant choice for a fall wedding. Choose a wispy fabric like chiffon for an effortless, sophisticated look (above). Or a satin dress that is more fitted for a modern, chic bridesmaid aesthetic.
We love this mid-length emerald green bridesmaid dress with a sophisticated cowl neck neckline. It’s perfect for all fall weddings!
Long Fall Bridesmaid Dresses
Long bridesmaid dresses are the classic choice for fall weddings and for good reason: they are beautiful, flattering, and super elegant. Long bridesmaid dresses are stunning in all types of fabric for fall, we especially love this satin charmeuse gown in Wisteria purple! But velvet, satin, and chiffon materials are also great materials for fall, you really can’t go wrong with a long gown.
Fall Bridesmaid Dresses with Sleeves
With cooler temperatures, fall weddings are the perfect opportunity for bridesmaid dresses with sleeves! Sleeves offer a very pretty and unique look, but can be a little too warm for weddings other times of the year.
Long sleeves are functional in a chilly outdoor wedding, and super elegant. Or you can opt for something even more unique with mid-length fluttery sleeves (see above picture). These type of sleeves are also perfect for a slightly more bohemian or rustic look if that’s the wedding aesthetic you’re going after. We especially love it in the pictured sage green, it’s so stunning!
Top Fall Bridesmaid Dress Colors
To make the process easiest when choosing your fall bridesmaid dresses, we recommend starting with choosing your dress color(s) and from there moving on to dress material, length, and sleeves or sleeveless.
Fall has some of the most gorgeous colors to choose from for both your wedding color palette and bridesmaid dress selection. You really can’t go wrong with ultra-flattering colors like Burgundy, rust orange, or sage green. Or for an extra elegant look, we love fall-friendly colors champagne and jewel tones like emerald green, indigo, and maroon red.
Tips for Choosing Bridesmaid Dresses
Choosing the right bridesmaid dress for your fall wedding can be overwhelming. After all, there are os many gorgeous choices! We have a few tips to make it easier to narrow down your list:
Consider Your Venue
Your venue will dictate a lot of your wedding choices and is typically one of your first (if not the first) decision you make about your nuptials celebration. While it’s not a hard and fast rule, you’ll often find brides want their bridesmaid dress style to be cohesive with the space.
If your wedding venue is outdoors and rustic, you may opt for charmeuse fabric. If your wedding venue is very formal, satin or velvet may be a more appropriate choice.
Take Weather & Temperature Into Account
Fall weather can be rather unpredictable depending on where your venue is and what month you’re getting married in. You’ll want to look up future and historical weather data to determine if your bridesmaids would be more comfortable in a bridesmaid dress with sleeves, a heavier fabric like velvet, or if they’ll need a shawl to walk down the aisle.
If your venue is indoors, you won’t need to consider weather and temperature unless you’re taking outdoor pictures. In which case, you may just decide to have shawls or matching jackets for your bridesmaids during outdoor pictures, depending on the time of year.
Keep Your Wedding Color Palette In Mind
While your bridesmaid dresses don’t have to match any of your wedding colors, it’s generally a good place to start and will help your wedding day feel coordinated and cohesive. You can choose your main wedding palette color, or allow the bridesmaid dresses to be an accent color.
Your wedding color palette is often determined before you shop for bridesmaid dresses, but if you’d rather let your bridesmaid dress color(s) influence your palette choice that’s fine too!
Personal & Bridesmaid Preferences
At the end of the day, what you and your bridesmaids prefer is what is most important in making your bridesmaid dress decision! If you love the look of velvet dresses, even with a more casual, outdoor or rustic setting, it will still be a beautiful choice.
